The Raphael Institute of the Arts, located in Los Angeles, California, is one of the most renowned performing arts conservatories in the world. It consists of two schools: Raphael Academy, a high school, and the Raphael School, a college, which also offers graduate programs and a night school for those not seeking a diploma or a degree. Although the schools originally started out focusing on drama, music, and dance, they have since branched out to include creative writing, film, and visual arts, as well as more genres within the original three categories, such as graduate programs in musical therapy and stage managing.
Dormitories are available for everyone, and there are separate buildings for high school students, college students, graduate students, and faculty members. People living in the area who do not attend Raphael as full-time students may still audition to receive private lessons or participate in performance groups. The Institute is open to students of all ages. Students at nearby schools may also cross-register and take classes at Raphael for credit.
We have created some high school options for those who do not attend Raphael Academy full-time, so not every student is going to a different school:
ASHFORD ACADEMY, a prestigious private day/boarding school almost guaranteed to get every single one of its overachieving students into an Ivy GILMORE HIGH SCHOOL, the richer, "better" public school, full of shiny, spoiled people who weren't quite brilliant enough to get into Ashford, but have a top-notch athletics department to console themselves with THOMAS HIGH SCHOOL, the run-down public school mockingly referred to as a holding cell between stints in juvenile hall, despite the overwhelming potential that its non-criminally oriented students display, especially in the arts
Characters at ofthearts will be based on showtunes. We loved the idea of basing characters on songs, and thought that showtunes would not only complement the setting of the game, but also provide a pool of songs that were more character-driven. Showtunes are not limited to Broadway numbers; we will be accepting songs from off-Broadway shows, as well as movie musicals, such as Enchanted, and musical episodes of television shows, such as "Once More, With Feeling" from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. If you aren't sure if a song choice is acceptable, feel free to ask.
You have the option of playing a full-time student at any level, an outside student receiving lessons or taking classes for credit, or a faculty member at any of the schools. Students may also apply to be teaching assistants. High school students generally help out with lower level classes, running errands for professors and answering simple questions. College students help out with either high school or lower level college classes, and are given more responsibility. While there is still more emphasis placed on the "assistant" portion of the title, they also occasionally take over classes, under the supervision of the professor. Graduate students, on the other hand, occasionally run entire classes on their own, and may also give private lessons. Theatre students at any level have the option of putting on independent productions, though they must first be approved by the administration. Students may also apply to be assistant directors to professors.
To apply, you will need a first post of some sort. It can be an entry, biography, fact list, survey, or anything else, as long as it will sufficiently introduce us to your character. You should know the basic rules by now. Don't cross the IC/OOC line. Remember to update and interact on a regular basis. The main community, ofthearts, will be used for threads and logs as well as introductions, so take advantage of that. And most importantly, have fun!
